Estate Law in Alluvium

Heredity and Estate Law

The fact that death is not at all  permanent state of being in Alluvium means that the concepts of heredity and estates are somewhat difficult to deal with. The Order often leaves this sort of law in the hands of the Grave Dancers as they are commonly granted such rights anyway.

The law as written requires all property, lands and valuable items to be registered with contracts written and approved by a Lawyer to ensure proper ownership upon Return.  Additionally these documents state who shall hold the property in trust whilst a citizen is dead.

This type of law is very specific.  For example, death is a specific thing.  A missing or imprisoned citizen does not transfer his property in the same fashion as a dead citizen does.  This leads to family members or others often seeking out a Lawyer to help declare the missing citizen officially dead.  The minimum time to pass from last seeing the citizen is one cycle, until which time without proof of death (witness or otherwise) the citizen can not be called dead.

The Grave Dancer’s insurance policies are designed to insure that upon death or going missing, the possessions of the insured are gathered by this guild and held in trust until the verified Return.   Many in the Order feel that the Grave Dancers hold far too much power in this respect.

Heredity of course does not transfer any title or possessions to the successor - although nobles legally married and registered may utilize all possessions and title for a period of one cycle in the absence of said noble.  The spouse will act as that noble until proof of death or one cycle has passed.  During this time, if correspondence is made from the titled noble, an extension of this time is granted.

Standings from the Fall Scenario in Tulsa, OK.

Greetings all!

Mongol Judge.png

This past weekend in Tulsa, OK. many warriors gathered together from many counties across Alluvium to join in Royal Games and feast at Farhampton.  Royal Leaders, Duke Ramon Kalivantes and Lord Tartarus held tournaments all morning long whilst the gathered people fought to bring home the gold.   Citizens from Ancyra, Nicholshire, Kroninburg, Falkenburg and the far off lands of the Aftermath and near Sanctus Azathoth did compete well.

All the while, adventuring parties were sent on quests to uncover treasure in the Farhampton woods.   Shortly before the days events, a caravan containing boxes of jewels, gold and trinkets for the Royals was attacked by Wildmen and Shade Realm creatures.   Necromancers and Demons were joined by corrupted Minotaurs and Undead Norse Berserkers to threaten the games and feast.  A particularly haunting Ghost did terrorize the town.  The Adventurers defeated many of these monsters and drove them back from whence they came.  A traveller wizard even came out to help the Adventurers in their quest.

Unfortunately, one of the adventurers was tempted by the darkness and rather than turning the blood and the ethereal well water over to the House of Talbot Guildsmen on site, he drank it.  The power overcame his body and he soon became the embodiment of the resurrected Mamuwalde the vampire!  The vampire laughed as his plan had come to fruition and he had a new body to use to terrorize the land.  Strangely enough, another partook of the blood and also took on aspects of Mamuwalde.  Could it be that Mamuwalde's spirit has spread between two individuals?  Are there two vampires now or one weakened being split between?  Time will tell as the vampires fled into the woods and toward Falkenburg.  The Kingdom has not seen the last of them.

Adventuring parties of 5 men gathered together to retrieve the treasures.  Only one could be the winner - and that was the Holy Order lead by Vargol von Nurnberg!  The remaining results are posted here:

Thank you Meleeworld!

I wanted to take a moment to thank all of those that came out this weekend to the scenario for coming. I know I had a great time and it was fun to know that I hadn't completely forgotten how to run a sign in (It had been 10 years after all). It's my personal and also the KOP's intention to continue to work alongside all of you in what ways we can to help Melee continue to have events worth circling on the calendar and bringing family and friends to. It was great to see first time Melee fighters and veterans working alongside in their adventuring parties to try to defeat the evil and win the day and then retiring together at the end of the day to some good food and a cold drink to recount their adventures.

I hope you all had as good of a time at the Scenario as we had hosting it, and we look forward to seeing you out at your parks.

Also, should you be interested in where the story goes from where it left off Saturday and also interested in tabletop gaming then you might want to come by Top Deck Games in Tulsa on a Thursday night around 7 where every week the story goes on. There's sure to be another Scenario in the story in the near future and those that participate in the tabletop sessions will have their own goals and stories. They might even be key figures in the story.

Thanks again everyone, and I'll see you on the field soon!

A message from Reginald Powell

Greetings adventurer, welcome to Farhampton.

You are much like many others who have crossed these fields, so near the wall. You seek riches, fame and glory. Perhaps you have something to prove, perhaps someone to impress? You no doubt have grand aspirations. They all do.
I warn you, in this land there is real evil in the darkest shadows and in the most ordinary places. Between the world we see and the things we fear, there are doors. When they are opened, nightmares become reality. But you aren't afraid of that now are you?
Northern Farhampton keep will play host to the royal games, perhaps you will join in the fun. The Duke of Nicholshire, the Duchess of Kronninburg, the Shogun of Ancyra and royals from Aftermath and Sanctus Azathoth are reportedly gathering for a feast after the games. Fame and fortune to be made for sure.
However, southern Farhampton borders Falkenburg. That is what the wall is protecting. No, not us from them, it protects Falkenburg from the Shade Realm things that live in those woods.
Eastern Farhampton is a heavily wooded area where an unchecked Shade Realm entrance hides. One of those doors, out of which spill all manner of vicious creature. Minotaurs, demons, ghasts and worse. It is said that the Vile Imp Pugnatia lives in the woods, offering wayfarers their wildest wishes into reality. All magic comes with a price, never doubt that.
The House Talbot does have some interest here, certainly. But that is the subject of discussion for more valiant adventuring types, you wouldn't be interested in that quest, would you?
I suppose I can't direct you to another village to visit? A dungeon with a dragon to slay? No, I did not think so. Well watch your back adventurer, it is not a safe land.

Chronicler's Spotlight "The Vandals of Triad"

The Vandals

Aert and his cousin Victor are the famous Vantuyl pirates. Their exploits are legendary, if somewhat hard to understand.  The leaders of the Vandals sail aboard the flagship "The Mangled Hand" on a journey of not only piracy but service to the crown, private cargo and passenger transport and often even heroism.

The Vandals are a capricious lot indeed.  Never outright evil, the vandals have been known to commit greatly questionable acts in the quest for money or glory.

The Vandals trek on exploration missions far more than other fleets. Seeking out the unknown is part of the Vandal goal.  While this often means danger and adventure, it also means treasure and secrets that others, even the most valiant Chroniclers, don't have such experience with.  It is without a doubt that the Vandals have the most contact with the Dark World of any fleets in the Armada, likely of any seafaring group in the entire Kingdom of Praelia.  Aert VanTuyl even had a few Shade Realm pets, a winged spider monkey and Burbossa the Troll.  The former is a spy and messenger, the latter an enforcer.

Once, the Vandals even worked with the Castellan Lowleaves to find a missing Duke.  Searching up the river toward Sanctus, The Vandals saved the duke's retinue and provided safe passage back for all from the dangerous sirens. Of course the sirens did follow the Vandals back to Nicholshire.

Another story involves Aert VanTuyl working with the Barber Surgeon Fritz Schwergwerfer to bring the dead back to life. Utilizing items brought from the Shade Realm, Aert helped create an entire army of vicious undead creations.

The Vandals are spurious, prone to outbursts and changing their minds like the winds.  Captain Aert may recall the entire fleet right before a war or engage in a battle between strangers for fun.  Some believe that the relative familiarity with the shade realm has altered the decision making of his fleet.  More than a few have questioned the loyalty of the Vandals to the Armada.  Coronado will hear nothing of these fears, he will only say "Captain Aert is part of the Triad."

The emblem of the VanTuyl Vandals is a red ‘V’ nailed to a mangled rotting hand.
